Las Placitas De Nuestros Pueblos is a collective initiative among Salvadoran residents in the United States, in partnership with ASOSAL, dedicated to transmitting, cultivating, and preserving Salvadoran tradition, history, music, and the performing and visual arts. Only by knowing our history can we truly understand where we come from and why we are who we are.
By staying informed about contemporary artistic production in El Salvador, we also encourage a new generation of Salvadoran immigrants to contribute to the construction of their people’s artistic heritage. This is a celebration of Salvadoran art that also aims to invite the general public of Los Angeles to learn more about the culture, history, and art of the Salvadoran people.
The goal is to encourage the diverse population of Los Angeles to explore different alternatives for building their history and celebrating their identity. Preserving our history and celebrating art can foster hope, acceptance, and the development of more productive and active individuals in today’s society.
Las Placitas De Nuestros Pueblos premiered in May 2009 at the New LATC Theatre (Teatro Latino), located at 514 S. Spring St., Los Angeles, CA 90013, receiving a warm reception and positive reviews from the audience.
