Removing this condition is mandatory upon its expiration, as immigration seeks proof that the petition through which you obtained your residency is real and ongoing.
This is proven by submitting the required evidence from the 2 years of conditional residency. Once this request to remove the condition is approved, you will obtain a permanent residency card valid for 10 years.
This process again requires an immigration appointment.
